Our Heritage
Jamaica Independence
On August 6, 1962, Jamaica gained independence from British rule, becoming a sovereign nation and a symbol of resilience, pride, and self-determination for people of African descent around the world.
That spirit of independence — of standing up, pushing forward, and building something lasting — is the same spirit that drives every Jamaican-American professional in the NYC Department of Corrections. It is the foundation upon which JAMROC was built.
